  • The Ideal Applicant to the Program

    The Program is designed for students who can succeed within a college-preparatory classroom environment with targeted support.
    • Demonstrates a sincere interest in attending La Salle Academy.
    • Has completed a comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation within the past three years, conducted by a licensed psychologist, documenting a diagnosis of a learning difference.
    • Demonstrates the ability to succeed within a college-preparatory classroom environment with targeted academic support.
    • Benefits from structured support in areas such as executive functioning, organization, self-advocacy, and academic skill development.
    • Demonstrates the social-emotional readiness to participate successfully in the academic and extracurricular life of the school.

  • How the Explorer Programs Works

    • Students receive direct instruction during their dedicated support period focused on areas such as verbal and written language, math skills, reading comprehension, study skills and test taking strategies, executive functioning skills, and/or self-management.
    • Students develop essential skills in self-advocacy, self-awareness, and self-assessment.
    • Curriculum is not modified or altered.
    • Accommodations will be provided on an individual basis.
    • Classroom teachers are informed of student accommodations and collaborate closely with Learning Specialists to support student success.
    • Students participate fully in all aspects of school life, including classes, sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities, and meet the same academic requirements as their peers.
    • Enrollment is limited to ensure individualized attention and support.

  • The Application/Admission Process

    • Complete the La Salle Academy application and indicate interest in the Explorer Program.
    • Submit a neuropsychological or psychoeducational evaluation that has been completed within the last three years.
    • Schedule a student shadow day.
    • Register for the high school placement test.

  • Can students in the Explorer Program take honors or AP classes?

    Yes! Many Exploper Program students take honors and advanced-level courses when appropriate, based on their academic strengths, teacher recommendations, and overall readiness.

  • Does the Explorer Program modify the curriculum?

    No. Students in the Explorer Program follow the same college-preparatory curriculum as their peers. The program provides accommodations, individualized support, and learning strategies to help students access the curriculum while maintaining high academic standards.

  • How does the program communicate with families?

    The Explorer Program values consistent and collaborative communication between school and home. Learning Specialists work closely with students, parents, teachers, and counselors to support each student's academic and personal growth throughout the year.

  • How often do students receive support through the Explorer Program?

    Students receive consistent support throughout the school week during their dedicated period built into their schedule.

  • What types of students benefit from the Explorer Program?

    Bright, motivated students capable of succeeding in rigorous academic courses while benefiting from targeted academic support.

    These students may have diagnosed learning differences such as ADHD, dyslexia, or dyscalculia, or benefit from support in areas such as executive functioning, organization, reading, math, or study skills.

La Salle Academy is a high school rich in history and grounded in the person and teachings of Jesus and the Catholic faith, which are core to the school's life and culture. The De La Salle Middle School provides a strong holistic foundation for students to transition into high school. The high school and middle school provide students of diverse ethnic, economic, and religious backgrounds, a community to foster growth in the tradition of St. John Baptist de La Salle’s ideals of faith, service, and community.
