Senior a National Merit Scholarship Finalist

La Salle Academy is proud to announce that the National Merit Scholarship Corporation has recognized one of our students—William B. Bartel, as a Finalist in this year’s competition.  William was one of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists who competed for one of the 7,500 National Merit Scholarships.  William is the son of Bruce and Patricia Bartel.  To be named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist is a great achievement, especially considering the rigor and competition in schools across the country.  William’s exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies paired with his values, character and leadership are a tremendous source of pride for our school community.

As a Finalist, William will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered in the spring.  Over 90 percent of the Semifinalists attained Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.  The selection of some 7,500 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15,000 Finalists is now in progress.  In March, NMSC will begin mailing scholarship offers to winners.
