LA SALLE CELEBRATES BOYS' HOCKEY SENIOR NIGHT

Mass--Game--Celebration

On Saturday evening, 9 February, La Salle Academy Senior members of the Boys' Hockey team were honored.

The festivities began with Mass celebrated for members of the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams and their families.  The celebrant was Reverend John Allard, OP, a LSA grad and Domincan friar/professor at Providence College.  Members of the Varsity team served as greeters, readers, server, and gift-bearers.  Father Allard reminded the full Brothers' Chapel that Jesus challenges us to do the unimaginable, even as He challenged Peter in the Gospel to set out deeper onto the sea to catch fish.  As Captain Nick Handy said in his Welcome, this annual Mass is a way for the team to express its faith (part of our Lasallian identity of faith, community, and service).

Players and family members moved to Schneider Arena on the PC Campus to battle the opponent for the evening, Greenwich HS, CT, in a non-league game.  Before the start of the game Seniors skated one-by-one to the bench to greet their parents and family members--flowers and kisses for their mothers and hugs for their fathers.  The hard-fought and physical game went into overtime, only to be ended when Greenwich scored beating La Salle 3-2.

Despite the loss, team members and families celebrated the Seniors with a meal at Federal Hill Pizza.  After feasting on salad and pizza, the Seniors thanked each of the four managers and Juniors honored and thanked Seniors.  Each Junior-Senior pair stood on stage in front of a large projected picture of the Senior.  The evening ended with cake, framed and large canvas pictures, and lots of hugs!
