LA SALLE RETAINS WALSH MEMORIAL TROPHY

The Boy's Hockey Team played to a 4-4 tie against Bishop Hendricken HS at the Coach Edward Walsh Jr. Memorial Game

On Friday evening, 1 February, before a standing room only crowd at Thayer Arena in Warwick, La Salle's Boy's Hockey Team retained the Walsh Trophy for the fourth year in a row (since the start of the Memorial Game).  The game is played in memory of Edward Walsh Jr., a star athlete and graduate of Bishop Hendricken HS who later played both hockey and baseball at Providence College and is in the PC Athletic Hall of Fame.  Coach Walsh went on to teach and coach at Warwick public schools, Bishop Hendricken HS, and finally at La Salle, as an Assistant Coach before his untimely death in the Summer of 2014.

After a hard-fought, seesaw battle with a number of lead changes, the game went into overtime and ended with a final score of 4-4.  Because La Salle had won the contest last year, the trophy remained with La Salle.  It was presented to the team captains following remarks on the ice by Coach Walsh's sons, Cam (LSA Class of 2013) and Tyler (LSA Class of 2015).  Other Walsh family members and friends were present for the game and for the presentation of the trophy.
