LA SALLE FACULTY ATTEND HUETHER LASALLIAN CONFERENCE
Director of Campus Ministry, Christine Bridges Estes, receives Distinguished Lasallian Educator Award
The 45th Huether Lasallian Conference took place November 15-17, 2018, at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center with the theme “Limitless Potential: Transforming Lasallian Communities.” La Salle had three faculty members attend (after 18 hours of snow-delayed travel!) and also lead break-out sessions during the conference: Mark Watson (Chairperson of the Science Department) and Science teacher Sheena McGee-Flynn offered a workshop entitled Caring for God's Creation (in this session, participants will experience their own environmental “tragedy” in an activity and discuss outcomes and solutions in order to relate this phenomenon to students’ everyday lives); and, Christine Bridges Estes offered a workshop entitled The Call to Accompany: A Model of Campus Ministry that Goes Beyond Borders (through multi-media presentations, facilitated discussions and interactive activities, this session will outline some of the ways La Salle Academy extends itself beyond its own borders and, more importantly, ask participants to reflect on where they and their ministries are being called to step out and venture).
Conference activities included: general sessions, keynoted by Peter Stemp and Brother Tefio Raoul Traore from ONLUS, an organization that supports Lasallian ministries serving the most vulnerable around the world, and by Dr. Michael Fowlin (Mykee) whose mission involves inclusion efforts among a variety of peoples; a large number of break-out sessions; table discussions; prayer; and, socials.
The concluding activity on Saturday evening was celebration of Mass and a banquet during which the Distinguished Lasallian Educators from the Region (RELAN—Lasallian Region of North America) were recognized and honored. Christine Bridges Estes was honored as one of three Distinguished Lasallian Educators from the District of Eastern North America.
La Salle Academy is a high school rich in history and grounded in the person and teachings of Jesus and the Catholic faith, which are core to the school's life and culture. The De La Salle Middle School provides a strong holistic foundation for students to transition into high school. The high school and middle school provide students of diverse ethnic, economic, and religious backgrounds, a community to foster growth in the tradition of St. John Baptist de La Salle’s ideals of faith, service, and community.
