LA SALLE'S COMPETITION CHEER TEAM TAKES RIIL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The La Salle Competition Cheerleading team made it a complete sweep of the Rhode Island State Championships by winning the RIIL State Championship Saturday at the PCTA. The Rams captured the Co-Ed Division with a score of 192.75 on their way to becoming the Grand Champions. The RIIL title comes one week after the team won the same two events at the RICCA Championships last weekend.

The team had the unenviable task of being the leadoff team in the competition. After setting the standard with their 192.75, they had to wait while the rest of the teams performed their routines and tried to match that number.

La Salle's routine was certainly the most complicated and difficult of the day, and the team carried it off with only a few wobbles, and quite a few "aahhh" moments. Their timing was impeccable on the floor, and their tumbling was superb. The only suspense was whether someone else could top it. The two hour wait may have been the most difficult part of the day. Coaches Kayla Solitro '03 and Jadine Ferri '03 have to be proud of their team as they swept the major competitons of the season. It is the first RIIL title since 2012. The team won the 2016 RICCA title.
