LSA STUDENTS SHOW THANKS

La Salle Academy students take part in two special Thanksgiving projects.

On the day before dismissal for the Thanksgiving holiday, students donated $7250.00 through a dress-down day.  This money was distributed to a number of local agencies serving poor and needy families: McAuley Village, Amos House, St. Patrick's Soup Kitchen, St. Edward's Soup Kitchen, Pawtucket Soup Kitchen, and the Diocese of Providence "Keep the Heat On" Program.

On the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday), seven students accompanied by religion teachers Ms. Deacutis and Mrs. Estes to deliver hundreds of coats to the lawn of the RI State House.

The effort was part of the National Buy Nothing Winter Coat Exchange Day, an annual event that takes place across the street from the Providence Place Mall.  This was R.I.'s 19th year of suppoting this initiative to highlight the negative role of consumerism in our society and put an emphasis on care and concern for one's neighbor.  At 9:00 am, a line had already formed along the State House lawn of individuals awaiting a coat donation.

The following students participated: Catherine Feisthamel, Matt Laliberte, Celia Parisi, Emma Parisi, Gabriella Pedro, Lily Poor, and James Truslow.
