JAMES MELLO NAMED NEW HEAD COACH OF BOYS ICE HOCKEY
Mr. Donald Kavanagh, Principal of La Salle Academy, announced today the hiring of Mr. James Mello as the Head Coach of the Boys Ice Hockey program at La Salle. Coach Mello graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in Economics, where he was a four year varsity player in goal. He was the recipient of the Alfred E. Watson Award as Dartmouth College’s Male Athlete of the Year, as well as being named the team MVP.
Coach Mello played at La Salle for three years for Coach Tom Fecteau before moving on to play Junior Hockey for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs. He was a member of Coach Mike Gaffney’s staff last year as the La Salle team won their first state championship in 38 years. Coach Mello has coached at a variety of different levels from college on down. Mr. Kavanagh stated, “We look forward to having Coach Mello bring his experience and knowledge of the game to the students at La Salle. A new era in La Salle Ice Hockey is beginning and we are excited about the future with Coach Mello.”
