TORRES' GOAL SENDS BOYS SOCCER TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Senior Trevor Torres scored the only goal in La Salle's 1-0 win in the RIIL State Championship Boys Soccer game at Rhode Island College Saturday. Torres was named the MVP of the tourney for his efforts, and he surely earned it. After taking a physical beating in the semifinal win over South Kingstown, there was some doubt to Torres' availability for the final. Despite spending much of the two days leading up to the game in the trainer's room, Torres was on the field and ready to go when the whitsle blew.

The game winning goal came in the second half on a great cross from Wednesday's hero, Luke Telang. Telang took the ball into the corner and fired a crossing ball that Torres headed into the net with gusto.
While Torres was the MVP for his heart, as much as his goal, Keeper Alex Padilla earned votes for that award, too. Padilla made two huge saves in the second half to keep North Kingstown off the board. He was awarded for his efforts with a place on the All-Tournament team, along with Telang and Greg Forgue.
Forgue, Ryan St. Pierre, Jonah Uribe, and Aaron Boyle were a force in the back. North Kingstown repeatedly made runs into La Salle territory, but were kept off the scoreboard.
The championship was the 8th title in the past 14 years for Coach Mario Pereira. It was also a fitting end to the coaching career of Assistant Coach Dennis Brennan, who will be retiring after this season. Coach B has been an inspiration to the boys of the La Salle soccer teams for over twenty years. The title is a great gift from the boys of the 2013 team to Coach Brennan for all of his years with the team.
