Note From Tim Welsh regarding Advancement Office changes
A brief note regarding upcoming changes at La Salle Academy
12 years ago, I began a journey here at La Salle Academy that has been more fulfilling professionally and personally than I ever could have imagined. Working with alumni, students, and wonderful colleagues every day to benefit our students and ensure that their “hearts and minds” have been touched has been a blessing that I never envisioned when I left here as a student. I came to La Salle to try to pay back the wonderful education I received as a student; after these last twelve years I can say that the La Salle community has yet again given more to me than I was able to give back. It is therefore with mixed emotions that I write to you to let you know that my time at La Salle Academy will end on June 30th of this year.
Earlier this Spring I accepted appointment as Headmaster of Matignon High School in Cambridge, effective July 1, 2013. I look very much forward to this challenge and the opportunity it presents for me and my family, and it is one that I could not pass up.
La Salle Academy is an amazing school because of the people who have made it so over the years. The most enjoyable aspect of my job has been meeting so many wonderful alumni and friends who have done remarkable things in their lives but still want to give back to the next generation of La Salle students. St. John Baptist de La Salle would be very proud of all of you!
I would be remiss if I did not thank the Advancement staff I have worked with over my tenure for all their hard work above and beyond what has been expected of them. It has been my pleasure and honor to work with Brother Michael Mc Kenery, and for the past year with Brother Thomas, and I deeply appreciate all I have learned from both of them. After my 12 years, I can say without reservation that La Salle’s Golden Age was not in the 1950’s, or ‘60’s, or even the last decade…the best days of La Salle Academy or ahead of her. Although I am disappointed I will not be able to join with Brother Thomas in moving the school forward, as a lifelong member of the La Salle Academy community I look forward to sharing in these future successes with him and each of you.
Tom Glavin ’70, whom many of you know through his years of work at La Salle as a volunteer, and for the last two years as a member of the staff, will be taking over the Vice President’s role. There could not be a better choice or someone who loves La Salle Academy as much as Tom. Any of you who come in contact with Tom in the future will learn that immediately.
A favorite story of mine is one told by any alumnus who visits Br. Timothy Rapa. Anyone who ever speaks to Brother Timothy about La Salle is told by him, “When I left La Salle, I left a piece of my heart behind.” While I look forward to my exciting new opportunity, in two weeks I will know exactly how Brother Timothy feels.
La Salle Academy is a high school rich in history and grounded in the person and teachings of Jesus and the Catholic faith, which are core to the school's life and culture. The De La Salle Middle School provides a strong holistic foundation for students to transition into high school. The high school and middle school provide students of diverse ethnic, economic, and religious backgrounds, a community to foster growth in the tradition of St. John Baptist de La Salle’s ideals of faith, service, and community.
