Freshman Have Fun At Orientation

The Class of 2016 kicked off the school year with the La Salle Academy Freshman Fun Orientation. The 374 incoming students gathered in two groups of roughly half the class each day over August 22 and August 23.

All but 40 students, those who attended the La Salle PEGASUS seventh and eighth grade program, were brand new to the campus. As they gathered in the theatre, it was easy to see that there was a high level of excitement with a bit of nervous energy amongst the new class. Channeling that energy in a positive way fixed the purpose of the event. It allowed the class to come together in a lighter setting rather than the regular rules and routine homeroom orientation day that follows the next week.

The two days also gave the students a chance to begin to meet each other and begin to build community.   The format for the day was to have them come together in casual clothes, receive their class tee shirt, hear an overview of the day from Mr. McGinn, Dean of the class of 2013, and then break into smaller home groups.

The groups then guided by student leaders, ranging from sophomores to seniors, ran through six fun activities that ranged from acquiring a history of the school to leaning about the sporting side of La Salle.

The orientation ended with a pizza party and spirit battle where the groups demonstrated their enthusiasm for La Salle with a rousing rendition of the school fight song led by Mr. “School Spirit” Tim Finnegan. The Class of 2016 showed great zeal as they lifted their voices loud and proud taking their place as the newest members of the high school community. On La Salle Rams!
