Two Juniors Competed at National History Day in DC
Christina Bertorelli and Alexa Stufano, juniors at LaSalleAcademy, represented Rhode Island at the annual National History Day (NHD) competition, held at the University of Maryland College Park Campus in the Washington, DC area June 15-19th. This year's theme was The Individual in History: Actions and Legacies. Their museum-type exhibit on the fashion icon Twiggy generated high marks by the judges The NHD program annually engages more than a half million students in grades six through 12 from 50 states, the Distinct of Columbia and American Samoa.

The NHD program annually engages more than a half million students in grades six through 12 from 50 states, the Distinct of Columbia and American Samoa. Each fall students nation-wide begin the year-long National History Day program, competing in a series of history contests in their local schools and states. Rhode Island's state competition took place at ProvidenceCollege on April 25, 2009. Top students in each category were selected for participation in the national contest. A highlight of their trip was meeting and discussing their project with Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Sheldon Whitehouse at the Capitol on June 18, 2009.
