  • The La Salle Academy Hall of Fame honors those men and women, living and deceased, who have brought honor to the name of La Salle Academy. 

    They have lived lives according to Lasallian ideals while demonstrating outstanding service to the Lasallian Catholic mission and significant social commitment to the communities in which they live.  They are persons who have graduated at least 25 years prior to being honored, or have had a long affiliation with, and commitment to, La Salle Academy.

    An Alumnus, or person closely associated with La Salle Academy, may be nominated if he/she has demonstrated the following qualities:

J. Clement Cicilline Class of 1957: Served as president and CEO of the Newport County Community Mental Health Center.  Helped establish several Rhode Island mental health organizations while also serving 10 years in the Rhode Island State Senate.

Stephen E. Cicilline Class of 1959: Successful lawyer and community leader.

Louis A. “Lou” Cimini Class of 1939: Devoted teacher and hockey coach at La Salle for 32 years. The stadium at La Salle is named for him. 

Michele A. Cinquegrano Class of 1989: Senior Director of State Government Affairs for Verizon.

Edward J. Collins Class of 1953: Major in the Providence Police Department.

Patrick T. Conley Class of 1955: Successful attorney, college professor, and published author.  Founder of the Heritage Harbor Foundation, the Providence Heritage Commission, and the Rhode Island Publications Society.

Philip J. Conley Class of 1945: Major General of the United States Air Force. Fighter pilot and commander of the first space shuttle landing.
Kevin C. Conroy Class of 1978: Entrepreneur and award winning media and technology innovator. Outstanding lacrosse player at La Salle Academy.

Leo M. Cooney, Jr. Class of 1961: Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine and developer of the Resource Utilization Groups.

Brother A. Jerome Corrigan, FSC: The first President of La Salle Academy. During his tenure oversaw the  change of La Salle Academy to a coeducational school and the addition of the 7th and 8th grade Pegasus Program.

Kathleen A. “Kay” Corry Class of 1973H: Devoted executive secretary at La Salle Academy for 43 years. First continuously employed woman at La Salle Academy.

Rev. Msgr. John F. Cox Class of 1928: Vicar General, Professor of Philosophy at Our Lady of Providence Seminary and pastor of St. Peter Church in Warwick, RI.

John P. “Jack” Cronin, AFSC: Devoted teacher and legendary coach of football, baseball and hockey at La Salle for 45 years. The athletic fields at La Salle are named for him.

Vincent A. Cullen, Jr. Class of 1951: Athletic director and basketball coach at the Community College of Rhode Island.

John J. Cummings Class of 1940: CEO of Fleet Financial and Founding Chairman of La Salle Academy’s Advisory Board. Appointed a Knight Commander in the order of St. Gregory by Pope Paul VI.

Rev. John F. Cunningham, OP Class of 1945: Served as President of Providence College.

Peter A. Curtin Class of 1942: Devoted teacher and legendary track coach at La Salle Academy. The indoor track in the McLaughlin Athletic Center is dedicated to him.

Rev. Angelo D’Agostino, SJ Class of 1943: Captain in the United States Air Force, Chief of Urology at Bolling Air Force Base. Founder of the Center for Psychiatry and Religion in Washington, D.C. and of Nyumbani medical care facility in Kenya.

Francis J. Darigan, Jr., Class of 1960: Associate Justice of the Superior Court of Rhode Island.

Benedetto Defelice Class of 1943: Distinguished career agent at the Central Intelligence Agency.

James F. Deffley Class of 1944: Devoted teacher, role model and very successful football coach at East Providence High School.

Joseph P. Delaney Class of 1935: Outstanding athlete at La Salle Academy and educational leader in the Providence School System.

Rev. John F. Denning, CSC Class of 1977: Served as President of Stonehill College.

William V. Devine Class of 1958: RI State Trooper and Chief of Police for the town of North Providence.

Col. Gerald F. Dillon Class of 1964: Army Airborne-Ranger Infantryman. Recipient of two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars with Valor, the Purple Heart, and the National Infantry Association’s Primicerius Award of the Order of St. Maurice.

Leo F. DiMaio Jr. Class of 1947: Director of Special Programs for Talent Development at the University of Rhode Island.

Robert A. DiMuccio class of 1975: Served as Chairman, President, and CEO of Amica Mutual Insurance.

Paul F. Donovan Class of 1946: Devoted teacher and coach at Hope High School.

Brother Flavian, FSC: Devoted teacher and “Subdirector” (Vice Principal) of La Salle Academy.  The Class of 1949 wrote: “In him we found embodied all the richest qualities which typify the Christian Brother.”

John E. Fogarty Class of 1930: United States Congressman, champion of health care and research legislation.

Brother Dominic Fontaine, FSC: Devoted teacher and alumni director. The Alumni Center in the Brothers’ residence is named for him.

Roger A.  Francoeur Class of 1953: IRS agent for thirty years and Professor of Taxation at Bryant College.

Fred M. Gabrielle, Jr. Class of 1951: served as a United States Army doctor as well as CEO of Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Connecticut and Chief of Staff for the St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

Rev. David F. Gaffney Class of 1977: Dedicated priest and teacher who later served as spiritual director at the Pontifical North American College, Rome.

Edward P. Gallogly Class of 1936: Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island, U.S. Attorney for Rhode Island, and Chief Judge of the Rhode Island Family Court. A plaque dedicated to him hangs in the chapel in La Salle’s Campus Ministry Center.

Lawrence P. Gallogly, AFSC Class of 1940: Dedicated alumnus of La Salle Academy. A role model of generosity and selfless service to others.

Mark T. Gallogly Class of 1975: Founder and manager of the investment firm Centerbridge Partners. Advisor to President Barack Obama on economic issues.

William F. Garrahan Class of 1946: Successful orthopedic surgeon. President of Kent County Hospital Medical Staff, the Kent County Medical Society, and the Rhode Island Orthopedic Society.

Barbara Cottam Garrahy: Served as chair of the Rhode Island Board of Education and as a senior advisor to US commerce secretary Gina Raimondo ‘89. Served as a member of the La Salle Academy Board of Trustees.
J. Joseph Garrahy Class of 1948: Devoted public servant who served as  Governor of the State of Rhode Island.

Vincent R Graziano Class of 1973: Executive Director and President of Rhode Islanders Saving Energy (RISE). Served on the La Salle Academy Board of Regents.

Brother Thomas Gerrow, FSC: Served for 8 years as the President of La Salle Academy and was instrumental in the purchasing of the La Salle Academy school property from the Diocese of Providence. De La Salle Middle school was created during his tenure.

Steven G. Gershkoff Class of 1967: Successful Rhode Island businessman.

Anthony A. Giannini Class of 1939: Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court.

Rev. Peter J. Gibbons 1905: Pastor of St. Teresa’s Church in Olneyville. The Alumni Walk leading to the main entrance of the school is dedicated to him.

James G. “Lou” Gorman Class of 1947: Vice President and Director of Baseball Operations for the Boston Red Sox.

Rev. Joseph J. Guido, OP Class of 1971: Highly regarded clinical psychologist. Vice President of Mission and Ministry at Providence College.

James G. Hagan Class of 1954: Successful business and community leader.

Brother Antony (Harte) of Jesus, FSC Class of 1924: Devoted teacher and the legendary Director of Athletics at La Salle Academy for 26 years.

Joseph P. Hasset Class of 1973: Outstanding basketball player for La Salle Academy and Providence College. Played in the NBA from 1977-1983.

Margaret B. Hayes Class of 1985: Devoted teacher and arts department chair. A driving force in the creation of the dance programs, “Christmas at La Salle”, and many other initiatives across the performing arts.

Edward V. Healey, Jr. Class of 1939: Recipient of the Bronze Star for heroism in World War II and Senior Associate Justice of the Rhode Island Family Court.

Felix Hebert Class of 1893: First Native Canadian to serve in U.S. Senate.

Edmond Heroux: Longest serving full-time employee to ever work at La Salle Academy. He was named director of Guidance while also coaching the boys basketball team for 25 years. In 2015 he was inducted into the Rhode Island Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.

Charles E. Hogan Class of 1946: Devoted archivist of La Salle Academy, chairperson of multiple La Salle Academy fund drives. 
Jonathan J. Houston: Founder, president, and CEO of Justice Assistance, a nonprofit criminal justice planning and service organization. Served on the White House Panel on Crime and Delinquency.

Neil J. Houston, Jr. Class of 1963: Criminal justice reformer and philanthropist.

Cedric P. Huntley Class of 1977: Served as Executive Director of the Nonviolence Institute.

Wanda S. Ingram: One of the first female members of the La Salle Board of Trustees and Chair of the board from 2008-2010. Served as Assistant Dean of undergraduate studies at Providence College.

Bernard A. Jackvony Class of 1962: Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island, Cochairman of the Anchor of Hope Fund for the Diocese of Providence.

Tricia K. Jedele Class of 1991: Successful environmental lawyer who served as special assistant Attorney General in the Environmental Unit  and Chief of the Environment and Energy Unit for the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office. Currently the Director of Offshore Wind Policy for The Nature Conservancy (TNC).

Robert L. Jeffrey Class of 1971: Chairman and CEO of JWT Worldwide advertising agency.

Donald J. Kavanagh, AFSC Class of 1969: Beloved faculty member, coach, and administrator at La Salle Academy. Served as principal for twenty two years and was subsequently named the school’s first lay president.

James M. Kavanagh Class of 1964: Head Track and Field Coach at the College of the Holy Cross. Boston College Athletic Hall of Fame and the Holy Cross Athletic Hall of Fame member.

Most Rev. Bernard M. Kelly, DD Class of 1936: Auxiliary Bishop of Providence.

Michael Kelly Class of 1960: Successful businessman and Providence City Councilman.

Msgr. Albert Kenney: Served as school chaplain for 13 years while moderating several sports teams and clubs. Named Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia of the Diocese of Providence.

Richard F. Kirby Class of 1942: All-State basketball player at La Salle. 
Louis A. “Lou” Lamoriello Class of 1959: Director of Athletics at Providence College, CEO of the New Jersey Nets of the NBA, and President and General Manager of the New Jersey Devils of the NHL. Inducted in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Armand P. Leco Class of 1944: Executive Vice President of Coordinated Health Partners, Inc. Founding member of St. Gregory the Great Church, Warwick, RI.

Rev. Joseph L. Lennon, OP Class of 1936: Faculty member of Providence College.

Capt. Michael D. McCarten Class of 1970: Served as senior medical officer aboard the Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier and as a Commanding Officer of the NATO trauma hospital in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Fleet surgeon for the United States Seventh Fleet.

Rev. John A. McGinn, MM Class of 1923: Maryknoll missionary. Jailed in China for his beliefs in, and proselytizing of, the Catholic faith. Brother of Vincent McGinn Class of 1927.

Vincent P. McGinn Class of 1927: Devoted teacher in the Lasallian tradition for 45 years at La Salle Academy.

V. Paul McGinn Class of 1961: One of the youngest men to be selected as a United States Administrative Law Judge. Son of Vincent McGinn Class of 1927.

J. Howard McGrath Class of 1922: Governor of the State of Rhode Island, Solicitor General of the United States, Attorney General of the United States. The first Rhode Islander to hold a presidential cabinet post, and dedicated civil rights activist.

William H. McGrath Class of 1954: Beloved leader in the funeral home business. Held multiple offices in local and regional funeral home associations.

James R. McGuirk Class of 1963: Prominent local attorney and member of La Salle Academy’s Board of Trustees.

John A. McIntyre Class of 1936: All-American football player at the University of Notre Dame; World War II and Korean War flying ace; recipient of the Silver Star.

Brother Michael Mc Kenery, FSC Class of 1957: Devoted teacher and administrator in the Lasallian tradition. La Salle Academy’s second president. Presided over the construction of the McLaughlin Athletic Center, Shea Science and Student Center, renovations of the theatre, auditorium and Cronin Fields and Cimini Stadium. The Arts Center at La Salle is named for him.

Robert J. McKenna Class of 1949: Professor of Politics at Salve Regina University. Mayor of Newport, RI.

John McLaughlin Class of 1945: Speechwriter to Presidents Nixon and Ford. Creator and host of “The McLaughlin Group” on PBS.

John J. McLaughlin Class of 1930: Outstanding athlete at La Salle and the University of Notre Dame, Co-owner and founder of McLaughlin and Moran.

Walter F. McLaughlin Class of 1957: Founder of McLaughlin Automotive Stores. Benefactor of La Salle Academy and the Christian Brothers. The McLaughlin Athletic Center is named in recognition of his and his wife Wanda’s unwavering dedication and devotion to La Salle Academy.

Wanda M. McLaughlin: One of La Salle Academy’s most generous benefactors. The Softball field is named in honor of her generosity and support.

Most Rev. Russell J. McVinney, DD Class of 1916: First native Rhode Islander to become Bishop of Providence.
John W. Meehan Class of 1976: Captain of the 1976 La Salle state championship ice hockey team. Named captain of the Yale Ice Hockey team and played professionally in Europe where his team was crowned National Champions.

David T. Miele, Class of 1978: Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for Citizens Asset Finance (a division of Citizens Bank) and vice chair of La Salle’s Board of Trustees.

John R. Miele Class of 1974: Prominent Rhode Island podiatrist.
Vincent W. Miley Class of 1941: President of New England Telephone Company Pioneers. Community leader in Cranston, RI.

Michael A. Montecalvo Class of 1980: Community leader, broadcast journalist and Emmy nominated anchor and reporter.

John E. Moran Class of 1931: Co-owner and founder of McLaughlin and Moran. Established the John E. Moran Foundation to benefit Woonsocket’s Association of Retarded Citizens of Northern Rhode Island.

Brother Frederick C. Mueller, FSC Class of 1966: Distinguished Lasallian educator who served as Principal from 1987-1995 and later as director of La Salle’s professional development and Lasallian formation.

Thomas M. Mulvey Class of 1960: Vice Chancellor for Student Services and Assistant Chancellor for Enrollment Management at University Massachusetts-Dartmouth.

Ann (McDonald) Murphy Class of 1988: Dedicated child protective investigator for the State of Rhode Island and Department of Children Youth and Services. The first female alumna inducted into the La Academy Hall of Fame.

John C. Myrick Class of 1923: Chief of Surgery at St. Joseph Hospital.

Joseph A. Nagle Class of 1974: President and CEO of Delta Dental of Rhode Island. Chair of the La Salle Academy Board of Regents.

Charles A. O’Connor, Jr. Class of 1927: Superintendent of Schools for the City of Providence.

Edwin O’Connor Class of 1935: Pulitzer Prize Winner for Edge of Sadness, author of The Last Hurrah, which was twice turned into a movie.

Steven G. O’Donnell Class of 1978: Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police. Lacrosse coach at La Salle Academy.

Rev. Joseph P. O’Gara Class of 1919: Pastor of St. Luke Church in Barrington, RI.

Daniel H. O’Grady: Devoted educator and legendary coach, his basketball and track and field teams won 19 RIIL state championships in 8 years. Named “the Father of Athletics at Rhode Island College” upon his induction into the RIC hall of fame for his time as athletic director and coach.

Donald M. Panciera Class of 1946: Professional football player and college coach. Successful local businessman. Quarterback of the 1945 “National Championship” football team.

Joseph H. Palmer: Dedicated teacher in the Lasallian tradition for 32 years.

Brother Albert Paul, FSC Class of 1924: Executive Vice President of Manhattan College.

John O. Pastore Class of 1959: Renowned cardiologist who was a member of the Board of the Directors of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW). Served as Secretary of the IPPNW when the organization was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985 for highlighting the devastating effects of nuclear war and for demonstrating the need for East-West accord.

Brother Vincent Pelletier, FSC Class of 1959: Devoted teacher in the Lasallian tradition who has spent his career teaching and ministering in Ethiopia.

Dennis J. Picard Class of 1950: Chief Executive Officer of Raytheon Corporation.

Bernard T. Pina Class of 1950: Devoted teacher and coach at several Rhode Island high schools and colleges. The first African-American head coach in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League.

Daniel T. Pires Class of 1959: Educator and guidance counselor at Cranston West High School and La Salle Academy.

Felix A. Porcaro, Jr. Class of 1974: Successful local businessman.

Daniel A. Procaccini Class of 1970: Justice of the Rhode Island Superior Court.

Edward J. “Ted” Quigley Class of 1973: Served as Athletic Director from 2000-2021. During his tenure, La Salle Academy returned to athletic prominence winning 140 RIIL State Championships, adding four new girls sports teams, and moving every girls program to Division 1.

Brother Timothy Rapa, FSC: Devoted teacher and Principal at La Salle Academy.

John J. Regan Class of 1967: Nationally respected attorney and leader in Catholic education.

Peter C. Reilly 1885: Entrepreneur and businessman who oversaw the development of “2-vinylpridine,” which led to the widespread production of synthetic tires.

Dennis J. Roberts Class of 1923: Mayor of Providence and Governor of the State of Rhode Island.

Wilfred V. Roberts Class of 1920: Devoted teacher in the Lasallian tradition and remarkably influential band and orchestra director at La Salle Academy.

Joseph F. Rodgers, Jr. Class of 1958: Chief Judge of the Superior Court of Rhode Island.

Michael L. Rogers Class of 1978: Managing director of Crescent Capital Group. First lay chair of the La Salle Academy Board of Trustees.

John H. Rollins Class of 1957: Inner-city youth counselor, running backs coach for Brown University and City of Providence Councilman.

John A. Romano Class of 1941: Served our country in both World War II aboard  USS Franklin D. Roosevelt and the Korean War aboard the USS Essex and USS Oriskany. Also served as both a State Representative and State Senator.

Most Rev. Francis X. Roque, DD Class of 1946: Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese for Military Services. Recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal and Distinguished Service Medal for his service.

Edward J. Routhier, Jr. Class of 1941: Founder of Cormack-Routhier Agency. Devoted to the Christian Brothers, who named their residence at La Salle “Routhier Hall” in his honor.

Gerald F. Russell Class of 1934: Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corp. Decorated veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Associate dean of Penn State University.

Armand E. Sabitoni Class of 1969: Served as general secretary-treasurer and the New England regional manager for the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA).

Richard C. Santaniello Class of 1952: Special education teacher and community leader.

James J. Scanlan, M.D., AFSC Class of 1940: Devoted to the De La Salle Christian Brothers, taking care of their medical needs for thirty-five years. Author of The History of La Salle Academy, 1850-1994.

Anthony W. Scorpio Class of 1973: Community leader and founding member of the La Salle Academy Board of Regents.

Raymond E. Shawcross Class of 1964: Judge of the Rhode Island Family Court and an advocate for youth and social justice.

Robert B. Shea Class of 1942: Successful lawyer, community leader and trusted adviser to Bro. Jerome Corrigan and Bro. Michael Mc Kenery. The Shea Science and Student Center is named for him.

Alfred M. Shiel Class of 1947: Devoted role model of community service in the Lasallian tradition.

James J. Skeffington Class of 1960: Community leader, successful lawyer and partner in the Law Firm of Edwards and Angell.

James M. Sloan III Class of 1949: Lawyer and instrumental figure in helping craft the plan that saved La Salle Academy by having it become a coeducational school.

W. Tyler Smith Class of 1962: Distinguished branding and communications designer in the fashion industry. 1984 RISD Alumnus of the year, he designed the “wave” license plate for Rhode Island and the Health research stamp for the US Postal Service.

Kristin Pono Sousa Class of 1991: Serves as the Rhode Island Medicaid Program Director at the Rhode Island Executive Office of Health and Human Services.

Richard J. Sullivan Class of 1967: Successful local businessman and advisor to Bro. Jerome Corrigan and Bro. Michael Mc Kenery.

Carl J. Toti Class of 1936: Devoted teacher, guidance counselor and legendary baseball coach at La Salle Academy. The “Freshman Scholar Athlete” Award is named for him.

Harold L. Trafford, Jr. Class of 1952: Editor at the Providence Journal. President of the Town Council of Coventry.

Rev. Daniel M. Trainor Class of 1953: Outstanding man of principle and courage, a champion of those at risk, particularly through his HIV/AIDS ministry and outreach.

Joseph G. Trimble, Jr. Class of 1948: Vice President of the Coca-Cola Company of New England.

Michael W. Tripp Class of 1964: Successful businessman and community leader. Decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. Became the “face of the war” when his photograph was unknowingly taken and published by photographer Frank Johnston in one of the most memorable images of the war.

Felisa F. White: Founder of libraries that served the United States Air Force in the Pacific. Devoted, longtime librarian of La Salle Academy.

V. Paul Winter AFSC Class of 1935: Benefactor of La Salle Academy and the Christian Brothers. Founder of the V. Paul Winter Distribution Company, Inc.
