PRINCIPE STARS IN BOYS STATE TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

Senior David Principe, Jr. made his last indoor track meet in Rhode Island a memorable one by taking home three gold medals in the 2017 Rhode Island Interscholastic League's Boys Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at the PCTA. Principe won the 3000, 1500, and 1000 meter races in convincing fashion, cementing his status as one of the greatest runners in Rhode Island history.

La Salle finished in third place with 69 points, behind Bishop Hendricken's 81 points, and Central High School's 75.

The Rams had good performances all day long and didn't leave any points on the track. Besides Principe's 10 points in the 3000 meters, the Rams picked up a 3rd place by Max DiMuccio and a 6th place by Domenic Campagna, to give the team 17 points in that event.

In the 1500, La Salle picked up another 16 points as Joe dosReis backed up Principe's win with a third place finish of his own.

Principe's final race of the day was the 1000 meters and he didn't have to hold back. He ran a 2:29.44 to break a 29 year old state meet record. It was a glorious way to end his indoor career in Rhode Island.

Senior Sam Coleman had a great day, as well, but came up one hundreth of a second out of first place and a state meet record. In a photo finish, Central's Donatien Djero finished in 6.395 in the 55 meter dash to Coleman's 6.396. Coleman also picked up a 4th place in the 300 meter race to account for 12 of La Salle's points on the day. He also led off the 4 x 200m relay that took a third place.

La Salle's 4 x 800m relay led off the meet for the Rams and finished in 3rd place. The 4 x 400m relay finished in 4th place.
