The La Salle Girls Indoor Track and Field team won their 11th consecutive Rhode Island Interscholastic League State Championship Saturday at the PCTA. The Lady Rams totaled 59 points to outduel second place Portsmouth High School by 5.5 points. Junior Grace Connolly was the only individual; winner for La Salle as she took home the gold in the 3000 meters.
Junior Emily Kane was huge for the Lady Rams all day as she totaled 18 points, the final 8 coming on her in second place finish in the 1000 meters, which secured the win. Senior Allyson Walsh grabbed a fifth place in the 1000 to give La Salle 10 points in the event. Kane also took a third in the 3000 and a fourth in the 1500. Connolly took a fifth in the 1500 to give her 12 points on the day.
Senior Alexandra Montagano tied for second in the high jump, a three-way tie that earned her 6 points.
The 55 meter high hurdles event proved critical for La Salle. Tianna Houston and Abigail Creamer finished 3rd and 4th, respectively to give the team a huge 10 point boost.
The 4 x 800m relay took a second place in the first event of the day to get La Salle going with a quick 8 points. The 4 x 200m relay brought home 2 points with their fifth place finish, while the 4 x 400m relay picked up a point with their sixth place finish.
The 11 straight state championships is now the longest such streak by a La Salle girls team in school history.
