Edward J. “Ted” Quigley, a 1973 graduate of La Salle Academy, has dedicated his life to athletics, education, and student development. Returning to La Salle in 1979 as a track coach and teacher, Ted later served as the school’s Athletic Administrator from 2000 to 2021, helping the Rams achieve unprecedented success on and off the field.
As a student, Ted thrived under Track and Field Coach Pete Curtin, earning four individual state high jump championships, a New England title, and contributing to Rhode Island and New England Championship track teams in 1971. He set state and school records in high jump that still stand today and continued his athletic success at Northeastern University, where he also set the school’s indoor and outdoor high jump records.
Ted’s leadership as Athletic Administrator transformed La Salle’s athletics program. Under his guidance, La Salle teams won 140 Rhode Island Interscholastic League State Championships. He championed the growth of girls’ sports, elevating all girls’ programs to Division I and adding gymnastics, girls’ lacrosse, girls’ ice hockey, and field hockey. He also spearheaded the hiring of La Salle’s first full-time athletic trainer, a resource that continues to benefit student-athletes.
Ted’s influence extended beyond La Salle. He served 18 years on the Executive Board of the Rhode Island Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (RIIAAA), including a term as President from 2008–2010, and became the first RIIAAA President to hold a voting seat on the Principals Committee on Athletics. He received numerous awards, including the NIAAA State Award of Merit (2003), RIIAAA Athletic Director of the Year (2008), and Rhode Island Interscholastic League Athletic Director of the Year (2021), culminating in his induction into the RIIAAA Hall of Fame in 2024.
Ted holds a B.S. in Secondary Education from Northeastern University and an M.Ed. from Rhode Island College. He served as a lector at St. Matthew’s Church in Cranston for over 25 years and contributed to the community through Cranston’s Juvenile Hearing Board. He currently works part-time for the Rhode Island Interscholastic League as Middle School Sports Coordinator. Ted resides in Warwick with his wife, Marcia, and is the proud parent of Sean ’01 (Patricia) and Kaitlyn ’04, as well as the grandfather of Connor and Madison.
