We heard from La Salle grad Kristina Grande '05 letting us know that she was recently recognized by Serve RI at their annual VolunCheers! event for her work at The Met School in Providence tutoring math and writing with sophomores and seniors this academic year. She also led diversity workshops, substituted for multiple teachers and chaperoned school events.
According to a story in the Warwick Beacon, VolunCheers! is part of the Serving Rhode Island week and National Volunteer Week. The week is dedicated to recognizing volunteers and engaging Rhode Islanders into volunteer service to the community.
The story went on to say, “Volunteers in every Rhode Island community and from all walks of life selflessly give their time to mentor and tutor struggling youth, care for the elderly, feed the hungry, care for the homeless, restore the environment, care for animals and many other acts of service. They bring talent to aid nonprofit organizations and their impact is significant. According to the Volunteering in America report, in 2009, 196,000 volunteers in Rhode Island contributed 26.5 million hours of service. This is a contribution deserving of public recognition.”
