La Salle Academy Science students competed in the Rhode Island Science & Engineering Fair during the weekend of March 27-28 and they once again made La Salle proud!
1st Grants were awarded to: Erin Kane and David Villiard.
Brittany Cavaco was awarded with being a Top 10 Senior project in the state, La Salle's eighth year in a row having a student in this category.
La Salle Academy Science students competed in the Rhode Island Science & Engineering Fair during the weekend of March 27-28 and they once again made La Salle proud!

2nd Grants were awarded to : Nimindu Ambalangodage, Michael Catarina, and Blake Jardin.
The specifics of Nimindu's awards are:
- Mu Alpha Theta Award (national high school and two year college
mathematics honor society) certificate for the most challenging, original,
thorough, and creative investigation of a problem involving mathematics
accessible to a high school student at the RI Science & Engineering Fair.
- NUWC Division Newport Innovative Science Award Rhode Island State Science
and Engineering Fair. - Senior Division
Nimindu also is invited to bring a child to work day event in Department of
the Navy at Newport.
3rd Grants were awarded to: Robert Checani, Tayla St. Pierre, & John Thorsen.
In addition, Special awards included:
- Brittany Cavaco who received a URI $1000 scholarship, an award from the US Navy Naval Research, Department of the Army Award with honorable distinction (the only student to receive this award) that included a $100 savings bond and certificate of achievement; The office of Naval Research Science award that included a monetary $75 educational recognition award, a certificate of achievement and an invitation for a full day tour of the Office of Naval Research. Lastly because she was in the top ten Brittany was invite to a dinner with Senator Whitehouse and Governor Carcieri.
- Robert Checani received the Coastal Resource Management Council, 2nd Place, a Narragansett Bay Commission 1st Place award with a $100 savings bond.
- Also, the Stockholm Junior Water Prize is a prestigious award given to the top 2 water projects in the state and one went to Robert Checani and the other to Brian Aucoin. Brian also won a $1000 scholarship to CCRI and an award from the Meteorological Society.
