Cedric P. Huntley, Class of 1977, was a tireless community advocate, mentor, and leader whose life was dedicated to uplifting others through education, service, and peacebuilding. Born in Lafayette, Louisiana, and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Cedric discovered his calling in 1976 while working at the Roger Williams Day Care Summer Camp, sparking a lifelong commitment to mentoring youth and strengthening his community.
Over a distinguished career, Cedric served in Governor Sundlun’s Constituent Services, directed the South Providence Recreation Center, led Student Support Services at The MET School, and culminated his professional journey as Executive Director of the Nonviolence Institute. Under his leadership, the Institute expanded critical programs in street outreach, victim services, education, and nonviolence training, earning him recognition as one of “22 to Watch in 2022” by The Providence Journal and induction into the Rhode Island Criminal Justice Hall of Fame.
Cedric also served on numerous boards, including College Unbound, the MET School Board, the Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence, and the LaSalle Academy Board of Trustees, building bridges across the community and amplifying his impact.
Known for his love, patience, and humility, Cedric taught by example, showing that success comes through accountability, responsibility, and hard work, all delivered with generosity and unwavering commitment to service. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the community he helped transform.
