FRESHMAN RETREATS

Beginning on October 20 and continuing until mid December, all ninth graders will participate in their freshmen retreat with their homerooms.  The theme of the day is "Grounded in Community."  Students take part in icebreakers and games (Cinderella's Shoe, Human Being, Odd Dot) in which they depend on and rely on one another.  After celebrating a homeroom Mass together, students are introduced to the African proverb of "Ubuntu"---I am because we are.  Students are asked to reflect on all the communities in which they belong---family, school, church, sports team or club, Lasallian world.  Students play La Salle Trivia and learn about both La Salle Academy and the wider Lasallian world.  Some 65 Upperclassmen (4 or 5 for each retreat), who serve as retreat leaders, share some of their experiences and advice in an afternoon panel.  The day concludes with a goal setting exercise for all ninth graders as students are asked to think about the kind of person they wish to become while at La Salle and to brainstorm academic, social, and spiritual goals for themselves.  The Campus Ministry Team conducts these 13 Freshman retreats and retreats for all students in each class.
