LSA COMPLETES TWINNING CAMPAIGN

Each year during Lent, Lasallian schools in the United States conduct a fund-raising campaign to help support Lasallian schools in East Africa (the Lwanga District).  The twinning relationship helps students in both parts of the Lasallian World realize that they are part of a world-wide Lasallian Family.

Since the inception of twinning, La Salle Academy has been twinned with Rongai Agricultural and Technical School in Rongai, Kenya.  This boarding school for male students from 12-18 years of age offers both academic and vocational instruction to its 400 students.  The monies raised this year will be used to help purchase a school bus and to offer tuition assistance to help less fortunate students pay school fees.

Throughout Lent La Salle high school students were urged to contribute to their Lasallian brothers in Rongai on each Wednesday during homeroom and through a Dress-down Day.  Faculty and staff assisted through their contributions on Wednesday "Soup and Bread" lunches (faculty and staff volunteered to bring in soup and bread and those who shared in the bounty contributred $5.00 apiece).  The Social Concerns Committee, under the leadership of Leslie Martinelli who had visited Rongai a number of years ago, organized the collections and the Faculty Community-Building Committee organized the "Soup and Bread" process.

As a result of these efforts La Salle Academy is sending $10,710.97 ($350.00 of which came from the "Soup and Bread" lunches) to its twinned school. 

Twinning is another way for La Salle Academy to celebrate the Lasallian Tercentenary through awareness that the "Heart--Commitment--Life" of Saint John Baptist de La Salle lives on in Lasallians here at La Salle Academy, in Rongai, and around the world.
