STUDENTS COMPLETE SERVICE WEEK IN LOCAL PROGRAM

“An authentic faith—which is never comfortable or completely personal—always involves the deep desire to leave this earth somehow better than we found it.” -Pope Francis

During the week of July 15, a group of La Salle Academy students, accompanied by faculty members, sacrificed vacation time to give expression to their faith through community-building activities, service, reflection and prayer. The students served in Worcester, MA as part of the Young Neighbors in Action 2018 Program. There they spent time assisting in an early childhood center where many of the children were from state run foster care.   They also spent the day at Hopkinton Park developing relationships with the kids from camp. Sunshine, fresh air, swimming, and lots of smiles were good for the soul! As part of the program, the students reflected on the word solidarity and what it means to be blessed, broken, and shared for others.

The students participating were: Kate Babineau, Arianna DelPonte, Kaia Faria, Grace Ferrara, Annaleah Harrison, Victoria Hennemann, Abigial Hjort, and Kaitlyn Oatley. They were accompanied by teachers Beth Deacutis (Religion) and Christine Estes (Director of Campus Ministry).

Campus Minister Christine Estes reflected, “I’m inspired by how much the young people I work with have to teach the rest of us.”
