La Salle grad and soon to be RISD grad Kyla Paolucci ’07 dropped by her former school in early May to pay a visit to her La Salle art teacher Mr. Connors and then stayed for a brief chat before spending a moment with Brother Michael during a Pippin rehearsal and then visiting Mr. Quigley and Mr. Wright.
A graphics design major at RISD, Kyla was an avid artist while at La Salle and carried that passion into her college years. She brought several pieces of her work on her visit.
“I loved Mr. Connors’ and Mrs. Ricci’s art classes,” said the Scholastic Art Award winner. “They were my greatest influences and the reason I plan a career in art. In addition to art, religion was one of my favorite subjects and I was fascinated by physics. I was into track during my La Salle years – triple jump, high jump and hurdles. I also fondly remember Mr. Keefe and Mr. White.”

In addition to art, religion was one of my favorite subjects and I was fascinated by physics. I was into track during my La Salle years – triple jump, high jump and hurdles. I also fondly remember Mr. Keefe and Mr. White.”
As a freshman, Kyla was identified as a highly gifted and dynamic young student artist. Speaking with her former Art teachers, Mrs. Ricci and Mr. Connors after her presentation, she fondly remembered receiving a letter in homeroom, inviting her to participate in the Visual Art track which is offered at La Salle. This program enabled her to take full year Art courses throughout her high school career. These courses provided her with the foundation for her highly successful experience at RISD.
“A few of my La Salle friends have traveled the same path as me,” continued Kyla. “Angelo Ballasone, Britni Sweet and Britt Kroessler are all in art schools – Angelo at RISD with me, Britni at Pratt and Britt in Boston.”
After a partial review of her portfolio, Kyla went to see the recently refurbished school auditorium and she was astonished. “This is remarkable. The last time I saw the auditorium the paint was very drab as were the curtains. And if there was an event, the seating was all metal chairs,” she said while admiring the new rows of collapsible
cushioned seats while The La Salle Players rehearsed.
Then Kyla quietly approached Brother Michael, who is the director of Pippin, and she was invited to stay a while and watch the young actors rehearse.
