The La Salle Girls Tennis team won the Rhode Island Interscholastic League's State Championship Sunday by defeating East Greenwich High School 4-1 at Slater Park. The championship was the third in the past four years for Coach Tom Martin's girls. The team won the 2011 and 2012 titles, and were runnersup to East Greenwich last year.

The Lady Rams finished with a perfect 15-0 record. They started their season with a match against East Greenwich, and they finished it against them. The first meeting of the year ended in a 4-3 La Salle win, so the team knew that EG was a tough squad.

East Greenwich took the lead by winning at #3 Doubles over La Salle's Olivia Gould and Stephanie Dooley, but that would be the last match they would take. #2 Singles player Natalie Pitocco continued her great season with a 6-0, 6-1 victory to tie the score. #2 Doubles Sofia Michalowski and Lindsay Brazenor made it 2-1 with their win in straight sets. #3 Singles player Caroline Dunn made it 3-1 with another straight sets win. The final point is always the toughest.

#1 Singles player Lauren Bertsch was in a tight match, as was the #1 Doubles team of Liz Healey and Haley Pollock. Healey and Pollock, ironically, will battle for the state doubles title on Monday against the same EG doubles team.

Alison Paul ended the suspense for the Lady Rams by winning her singles match 6-1, 6-4, to give the team the four points they needed for the title.
