Governor Joseph Garrahy '48 Dies

Former Rhode Island governor and La Salle Academy graduate J. Joseph Garrahy ’48 passed away Wednesday, January 25. 

A Statement from La Salle Academy President Brother Michael Mc Kenery on the passing of Governor Garrahy
 
“It was with great sadness that we learned today of the passing of one of La Salle Academy’s great and loyal graduates, former Governor J. Joseph Garrahy, La Salle Academy Class of 1948.  Governor Garrahy was in every sense of the word a great man and gentleman, and his dedication to his family, his community, and his Church will forever serve as an example to our students.  The entire La Salle Academy community offers our prayers to Margherite and the entire Garrahy family at this difficult time.”

Funeral services for former Gov. J. Joseph Garrahy will be held Tuesday at the Cathedral of SS. Peter & Paul in Providence, according to Sean Boyle of the Russell J. Boyle Funeral Home.
 
Visiting hours at the cathedral will be Monday from 2 to 6 p.m. The Tuesday Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
 
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Wakefield.
