LA SALLE GIRLS WIN BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

The La Salle Girls Basketball team captured the Rhode Island Credit Union Girls Basketball State Championship over South Kingstown High School with a 45 to 37 decision at the Ryan Center. Both the Lady Rams and the Rebels turned in tremendous performances in the most important of games.

Christina Kizer scored 17 points, including two huge 3-pointers in the last two minutes, to lead the Lady Rams. Once again, as is always the case with Coach Sean Reddy's teams, this was a group effort. Sloane Heterick's ball-handling efforts and scoring earned her a place on the All-Tourney team, along with Kiser who was named the game's MVP. Isabella Folgo had a great weekend, leading the team in scoring on Saturday, and helping to hold South Kingstown star Celia Tomlinson to 16 points. She received help from Allie Desrosiers and Helene Dalsgaard in dealing with the 2016 Gatorade Player of the Year in Tomlinson. Desrosiers was all over the place on defense and on the boards, substituting scoring for what was needed. Dalsgaard chipped in with 6 important points, and also player tough defense. Victoria Scorpio was her usual frenetic self, raising the tempo of the game on both offense and defense. Ainsley Burns was once again solid on both ends of the floor.

The 2016 championship was the 11th in school history, and the 9th under Coach Reddy's tutelage.
